Growth of common oak (Quercus robur L.) provenances in Croatia
This paper presents results on survivaI and totaI height at age 9 in Gajno and Slavir, on bud flushing in 1993 and 1994, as well as on length, width and number of stomata per mm2. The average survival was 87, 70% in Gajno and 44, 06% in Slavir. Provenance Oriovac had the greatest survival in Gajno (93, 50%), and provenance Vrbanja (56, 75%) in Slavir. Plants of all provenances grew better in Gajno than in Slavir. In Gajno the highest provenance was Gunja (197, 50 cm), and the lowest Motovun(144, 61 cm). In Slavir the highest provenance was Spačva (94, 72 cm), and the lowest Mitrovica (69, 75 cm).Bud flushing was more concentrated in Slavir (3 weeks) than in Gajno (4 to 6 weeks) for each observation real respectively. A year effect was also observed: in 1994 flushing started about two weeks earlier than in 1993. Data on stomata length and width as well as the number per mm2 were processed by standard multivariate analysis. The results show significant enviromental and genetic variability, but still so me regularities can be noticed.
