Fundamentals of anisotropic material contact caustics
The process of delamination in multi-layered composite materials occurs as a consequence of interlaminar stresses and can be expected in the vicinity of the stress concentration region. The optical method of caustics is applied on the contact force acting on the semi-infinite mechanically anisotropic plate. Simulations of the optical effect are generated and analyzed by using the same idea, which is applied to isotropic materials. Experimental optical effects are used for the force intensity determination if they match the simulated ones. The benefit of such experimentation is the identification of the delaminated regions where the aberrations of the experimental optical effects are significant compared to the simulated ones.
