A Procedure for Compensation of Electromagnetic Properties in RFEC Inspection of Metal Tubes

In the remote-field eddy-current inspection of metal tubes, variations of electromagnetic properties (magnetic permeability and electrical conductivity) must be compensated for in order to obtain a reliable thickness measurement (i.e. defect identification). Existing compensation procedure is based on a simplified model of eddy-current diffusion and completely neglects variations of electrical conductivity. We propose a novel compensation procedure based on a more realistic model that includes conductivity variations. We compare the two methods by means of the finite element analysis.
