Effect of Curvature on Characteristics of Spherical Patch Antennas
The paper deals with properties of microstrip patch antennas mounted on spherical structures. The influence of structure radius on input impedance and mutual coupling is investigated. It is shown that variation of structure radius has a great influence on the resonant frequency and mutual coupling level. Furthermore, calculations show a large sensitivity of the resonant frequency on deviations from the spherical symmetry. Therefore, the curvature effects of spherical and cylindrical patch antennas are quite different. The results confirm the importance of rigorous analysis of curved patch antennas.
