A mathematical model to transform 3D into 2D curves
Gradual development of a mathematical model is given, the model being used to transform 3D curves, i.e. contour segments of 3D cutting patterns, into 2D curves, or contour segments of future 2D cutting patterns. The investigations described are a part of the research intended to develop a comprehensive new method for 3D garment construction on a computer-generated body model. The method enables a 3D cutting pattern of an article of clothing, previously constructed on a computer-generated body model, to be transformed into a 2D cutting patterns. No fabric parameters are necessary, this distinguishing the method from the ones developed in previous investigations. The mathematical model developed makes possible the method by which a 3D curve is transformed by projecting it onto a plane defined by the Gaussian method of least squares.
