Antimicrobial finishing of socks
For the hygienic and freshness purposes cotton/PA socks were treated with different antimicrobial agents. Cationic surfactant cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) was applied for additional biocide purposes. By inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi tested agents successfully prevent the formation of unpleasant odours, resulting in longer-lasting freshness for treated socks. This can be of particular interest for persons with transpiration problems and in a case of long term exposure to tightly closed tennis shoes during the sport activity. Efficacy and durability of this built-in protection were tested after 25 repeated launderings. An absence of bacteria or fungi on and around tested samples has clearly demonstrated antimicrobial effectiveness. Consumers, particularly in sport sector already worldwide accept this new concept of freshness feature.
