Distributed program interpretation in service-oriented architectures
Service-Oriented Computing is a new software development model that uses services as basic building blocks for development and deployment of distributed applications. In a service-oriented development model, the large-scale distributed applications are built by organizing and connecting individual services into service compositions. In this paper, we describe a service composition model based on distributed program interpretation. A distributed application is deployed as a set of services, a set of distributed programs, and a set of coordination mechanisms. While services implement computational logic, distributed programs implement the collaboration logic and coordination mechanisms enable cooperation and competition of services. We have implemented a distributed program interpreter that executes the distributed programs written in CL (Coopetition Language), which is a compact language based on BPEL4WS and WSDL. The implemented distributed program interpreter enables deployment and execution of large-scale distributed applications with enhanced load-balancing and fault tolerance capabilities.
