Trauma psíquico en la adolescencia - estudio de los adolescentes desplazados y refugiados de Bosnia-Herzegovina en Croacia
The paper explores the differences in psychological adjustment between Bosnian refugee adolescents and their host peers in Croatia. Almost all the differences found between adolescent refugees and displaced adolescents and host adolescents depend on their gender differences (male – female) and not on their « ; ; ; ; ; ; country status» ; ; ; ; ; ; (refugee or displaced – host). Exception is Rule – Breacking Behaviour Scale were the differences by status exist. To some extent that is possible to say for externalizing problems as well. It was also confirmed that adolescents observed significantly higher problems than their parents, especially adolescents from refugee families. These our findings are in accordance with the data of GAP Committee on Adolescence (2003) which point that the trauma – exposed adolescents demonstrated better social functioning than their adult counterparts under the same conditions what can show the relative resiliance conferred by this particular stage of development. However the same Committee points that acute or delayed symptoms of PTSD and depression or impaired social functioning, may not be the only possible pathological effects of war – related trauma. This early resilience could come at the cost of later psychiatric disorders, distorted defensive structures, the exaggeration of normal development anxieties or difficultes with separation from family and the consolidation of identity. Finally, it is worth considering the possible effects of massive psychic trauma upon adolescents as they move into adult societal roles, i.e. children who grow up in the culture of mistrust, fear and hatred may be less likely to contribute to an ethos of multicultural tolerance as adults.
