Effect of bromocriptine on GABA metabolism in specific brain regions
The effects of bromocriptine on GABA concentration and the activity of glutamate decarboxylase (GAD, the enzyme taking part in GABA synthesis) in various brain regions were investigated. The study shows that bromocriptine administration can increase the concentration and the turnover of GABA in the regions of extrapyramidal and limbic system. The results might suggest that bromocriptine-induced diminished GABAergic transmission leads to a compansatory activation of the GABA system
