Genetic divergence of elite maize inbred lines comparing to Illinois high oil source
For introduction of the high oil trait into elite inbred lines polymorphic SSR loci can be used. The objectives of the study were to 1) determine the level of polymorphism at 39 SSR loci among Illinois High Oil (IHO) high oil source and elite maize inbred lines, and 2) estimate genetic similarity of elite maize inbred lines with normal oil content and the high oil source IHO and compare the obtained results with the pedigree data. For 39 SSR loci relatively low polymorphism was found. The IHO did not show extreme divergence comparing to the other inbred lines. Anyway, cluster analysis positioned IHO on the separate branch of the dendrogram. The other inbred lines were mostly clustered according to expectations based on pedigree data.
