Low-Toxicity Copper Corrosion Inhibitors
The efficiency of various imidazole derivatives as corrosion inhibitors for copper in hydrochloric and sulphuric acid was investigated. Electrochemical measurements showed that organic compounds investigated have fairly good inhibiting properties except the 4-methyl-5-imidazolecarbaldehyde in hydrochloric acid. The protecting properties of most imidazole derivatives are close to the properties of commercial inhibitor for copper. Toxicity evaluation of water solutions on the biological system for treatment of wastewater measured by means of COD-(Chemical Oxygen Demands)-values, aerobic and anaerobic toxicity showed that tested inhibitors have a relatively low toxicity.
