Ways to increase blood donations: effects of "foot in the door" technique and reminding
The present study examined efficiency of "foot in the door" technique and the effect of "reminding" to blood donation. Participants were randomly assigned into 3 groups (N1=417, N2=202, N3=225) with different treatments. In the first group standard TRA/TPB questionnaires were applied ; the second group was presented with a version of "foot-in-the-door" technique, while the third was a control group. All participants were given a chance to subscribe a "promise card" to register for blood donation after filling in the questionnaires. To test the effect of reminding half of those who subscribed a "promise card" were reminded via a telephone call. The subscription of donor card is a stable predictor of blood donation. In the group of persons who subscribed a card, approximately 50% donates ; versus 6% in a non-subscribers group. "Foot in the door" and reminding manipulations significantly increased the number of donation.
