The biogenic amines in the brain of rats withdrawn from ethanol and treated with dihydroergotoxine

Rats withdrawn from ethanol had significantly lower concentrations of brain dopamine and noradrenaline, and the alpha-MPT induced depletion of these amines from the brain was enhanced. Treatment with 0.1 mg/kg DHET enhanced even more the alpha-MPT induced depletion of brain noradrenaline. THe results might suggest that patients withdrawn from ethanol should avoid the use of DHET.
