Removal Of Heavy Metal Ions From Solutions By Means Of Zeolites. Part 1. Thermodynamics Of The Population Balance: An Useful Tool For The Modeling Of Zeolite Crystallization
Among different models of zeolite crystallization, only population balance models are based on fundamental concepts of particulate processes (gel dissolution, nucleation and crystal growth of zeolites) which occur during the crystallization. Hence, the population balance methodology enables the simulation of crystallization processes using different mechanisms of gel dissolution and nucleation and crystal growth of zeolite microcrystals. The objective of this presentation is the analysis of critical particulate processes that occur during the crystallization of zeolites and explanation of the principles of modeling of zeolite crystallization using population balance method. This will be performed by simulation of changes of the characteristic parameters (crystalinity, crystal size, concentration of reactants in the solution etc.) during the crystallization of zeolite A from differently aged gels and by the correlation of simulated and experimental results taking into consideration earlier defined and/or assumed mechanisms of zeolite nucleation, and crystal growth as well as the mechanism of gel dissolution.
