In vitro effects of TRH and AVP with and without cortisole on hormone secretion and DNA/RNA synthesis from cell culture of clinically nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas
This study was performed to compare effect of TRH and AVP on DNA/RNA synthesis and hormone release (GH, ACTH, PRL, aplpha-TSH, LH, FSH) on pituitary "nonsecreting" adenomas in vitro. The cells from two clinicaly nonfunctioning tumors and one pluryhormonal tumor from patient with acromegaly symptoms was cultured on ECM surface. The DNA/RNA synthesis and hormone secretion were specific for every tumor, so we could find a difference in both clinically nonsecreting tumors in basal state or under TRH, AVP or cortisol activity. On the basis of these findings we could describe the tumors as partially hormone active, which can not be distinguished in vivo, where we in those cases measured hormones parallel secreted from pituitary.
nonfunctionin pituitary adenomas; hormone secretion; DNA/RNA synthesis
