Environmental alternative fuels for vehicles

Considering mainly from the viewpoint of ecology, the overall "motorization " of the modern world (producing annually more than 50 million passenger cars, accommodating almost 70% of urban population using every day more than 700 million motor vehicles running primarily on petrol and diesel) has brought the humanity to an alarming situation regarding pollution of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithospherc of the Earth. Apart from legislative, economic, organisational and educational measures for protecting the environment from the harmful impact of traffic, various technical measures are undertaken as well, which stimulate the manufacture of cars propelled by alternative, environmentally-friendly fuels. This paper considers precisely the current achievements within the automotive industry regarding these technical measures.
