Synthesis and antibacterial effect of derivatives of 5-(3, 4, 5-trimethoxybenzyl)-pyrimidine, -tetrahydropyrimidine, -hexahydropyrimidine and hydantoin

Pyrimidine derivatives I, hexahydropyrimidine-4, 6-diones II and III, tetrahydropyrimidine-4, 6-diones IV and hydantoins were synthesized. In vitro antibacterial activity of these compounds was tested against some bactera strains and compared with that of the well known bacteriostatic trimethoprim. The activity of compounds I was higher than that of trimethoprim against Sarcina Lutea, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, while compounds of group IV acted also against Corynebacterium xerosis, E. coli and Shigella flexneri.
