Substituted 5-(3, 4, 5-trimethoxybenzyl)-barbiturates. Synthesis and antibacterial activity
By condensation of ethyl esters of 3, 4, 5-trimethoxybenzyl-malonic acid and - cyanoacetic acid with urea, guanidine, thiourea or N-methylurea, the corrersponding derivatives of barbituric, iminobarbituric, thiobarbituric and N-methylbarbituric acids have been synthesized. Their 5-alkyl and 5-allyl derivatives have also been prepared. The antibacterial activity of these compounds on the strains of animal and human origin has been tested. It has been found out that most of the compounds posses antibacterial activity similar to that of sulfaphenazole, the product used for comparison purposes. Dependence of antibacterial activity upon the structure of newly synthesized compounds has been discussed.
