Nonlinear dynamics in genetics

We study the possibility which nonlinear dynamics may offer to distinguish between alpha helix and beta sheet protein structure. We have studied protein secondary structure transcribed by means of the two binary digit nucleotide notation. Following the nucleotide binary code transcription, fractal dimension was calculated to obtain the dimension values of the string. Our preliminary results indicate that protein coding structure may be successfully studied on the genomic level by applying the methods of nonlinear dynamics to DNA/RNA sequences.
