Determination of the cytosolic enzyme activities in the liver of lactating cows in vivo. II. Determination of NAD malate dehydrogenase activity
The aim of the present work was to determine the activity of NAD malate dehydrogenase (MD) in vivo in the soluble fraction of the liver tissue specimens obtained by biopsy during the first week of lactation. The results, ranging from 101.6 to 243.2 umol/g tissue/min, showed slightly higher values of activity than those reported for the healthy cows by other authors. It is concluded that by using the presented biopsy and the enzyme assay methods, the activity of the mentioned enzyme can be cuccessfully determined in the liver of lactating dairy cows in vivo. The results are discussed in the light of the role of MD in the process of oxaloacetate forming and transporting pathways into the mitohondria and cytosol of the cows hepatocyte, respectively.
