Nove beta-ciklodekstrinske vezikule
The ability of cyclodextrins (CDs) to act as hosts to apolar guest molecules by including them in their hydrophobic cavities is well established. Increasingly, the native CDs now serve as scaffolds on which multiple functional groups can be assembled with controlled geometry. This has opened new areas of supramolecular chemistry assemblies with possibilities for drug or gene delivery [1]. Amphiphilic beta-cyclodextrins, substituted with hydrophobic n-alkylthio chains at the primary hydroxyl side and hydrophilic oligo(ethylene glycol) units at the secondary side, form bilayer vesicles or nanoparticles with a diameter from 30 to 120 nm (depending on the length of the alkyl chain) [2, 3]. We have now prepared a new class of amphiphilic -CD derivatives substituted with hydrophobic n-alkylthio chains at the secondary hydroxyl side and hydrophilic oligo(ethylene glycol) units at the primary side (Figure). These compounds, 1 and 2, can form uniform bilayer vesicles in water approximately 230 and 150 nm in size, respectively.
