Novel bis-styrylbenzothiazolium salts as potentially biologically active substances
A large number of benzothiazole derivatives are of considerable biological and chemical interest.[1] Many 2-substituted benzothiazoles when quarternized to benzothiazolium salts are especially active as antimicrobial, antihelminitic and antineoplastic agents.[2] Recently, we reported the discovery of styrylbenzothiazoles with biological activity.[3] We continued our work in order to improve biological activity of benzothiazole compounds and further synthesis was carried out on series of novel bis-styrylbenzothiazolium salts 4-12. All bis-benzothiazolium salts 1-12 were prepared in multistep synthesis from 2-methylbenzothiazole[4].
