Failure Analysis of Steel Space Frames under Large Displacement
This paper presents a practical numerical model used in failure analysis of steel space frames under large displacement. The model is based on the assumption of an incremental application of Total Lagrange small displacement theory. The nonlinear beam-column finite element (FE) adopts a decomposition approach for the cross-section to capture the uniaxial material nonlinear behavior of steel. The filaments in section are extended over the beam-column FE and they form a prismatic comparative body, which is discretised by brick FE to capture the shear and torsional nonlinear behavior of steel sections. The model implements flexural, lateral and torsional stability effects. The incremental step procedure of gravitational load level is applied.
