Labortorijske metode dijagnosticiranja klasične svinjske kuge
Due to the harmonization of laboratory methods with the standards applied by the EU, as the only approach for classical swine fever diagnosis, this presentation is based on the new Directive published in N.N. 16/2005. The Directive includes and describes clinical and pathological signs of disease, as well as epidemiological data which should alert veterinarians and pig owners that CSF could be present. It also describes laboratory methods that must be applied for CSF diagnosis, including newly ''regruted'' methods such as RT-PCR and phylogenetic typing of viral isolates. The results of genetic typing of CSF viral isolates derived from domestic pigs and wild boars in Croatia during the period of 1997 to 2003 are presented and used for better understanding of the advantages that molecular epidemiology methods allow. The presentation includes lectures about the choice of material to be sent for laboratory diagnosis and the way of packing and transporting the potentially infectiouse material to the diagnostic laboratory.
