Organic content and pigment composition of the Adriatic mucilages

In the last decade intensive mucilage events affected large areas (up to 10,000 km2) of the northern Adriatic during summers 1988, 1989, 1991 and 1997. We followed this phenomenon from July to September 1997 and compared some basic properties of the mucilage with the samples collected during summer 1991.
