CHRONIC VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY: LASER THERAPY YES OR NO?
The role of lasers has gained increasing popularity over the last decade. Refinements in laser technology and technique have provided patients and practitioners with more therapeutic choices and improved clinical results. These advances include cooling technologies, variable pulse duration and spot size as well as the ability to deliver high-energy fluences. The precise control of lasers minimizes thermal damage of the skin while maximizing therapeutic efficacy. Although sclerotherapy remains the gold standard of treatment for lower extremity telangiectasias, combined approaches of sclerotherapy plus lasers treatments may produce synergistic results. Expense remains an issue as well as variable responses compared with sclerotherapy.
