Patophysiology of chronic venous insufficiency of lower extremities
Chronic venous insufficiency is a frequent condition, with a prevalence of 2-5% in the population. Venous disease has a significant impact on quality of life and work productivity. Although the exact pathogenic steps leading from venous hypertension to venous ulceration remain unclear, several hypotheses have been introduced to explain the development of venous ulceration. A better understanding of pathophysiology of chronic venous insufficiency had led to the development of new approaches in management and better therapeutical effects. Result of improved community care, prevention, better diagnosis and therapy is diminishing relative frequency of venous leg ulcers.
