Febrille ulceronecrotic pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta with fatal outcome
Ulceronecrotic Mucha-Haberman disease is severe, febrile form of pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta that may sometimes have fatal outcome, especially in elderly patients. According to literature, causes of death were pneumonia and cardiatica arrest. We repost on a 60-year-old male patient whose eruption of erythematous, haemorrhagic, ulceronecrotic papules accompanied with high temperature had started 3 weeks before admittance to our hospital. Erosins and ulceronecrotic papules covered over 80% of his body. Systemic therapy with two antibiotisc and high doses of oral corticosteroids was continued at our Department. The skin condition started to improve. Three weeks after admittance to the hospital, gastrointestinal problems together with leucocystosis occured, so the patient was transferred into Department of internal medicine and later to the surgery department. The fulminant course of the disease couldn't be stopped and the patient died of severe intestinal and colon gangrene caused by the massive thrombosis of superior mesenteric artery.
