Evaluation of the analytical performance of the Abbott Spectrum high performance diagnostic system

The Abbott Spectrum discrete selective analyzer, which operates in three modes (random or tandem access, and batch), was evaluated in this study with respect to the determination of glucose, bilirubin, urea, uric acid, total protein, cholesterol, triglycerides, creatinine, amylase, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate and alanine amino-transferase, y- glutamyl transferase, creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, sodium, potassium and chloride. Within-run and day-to-day precision was assessed. Sample-to-sample carryover, reagent- to-reagent carryover and a correlation study with the results obtained by the methods routinely used in this laboratory were also performed. We found a high precision of the system and a good correlation with comparable instruments.
