Histochemical Alterations in Uterine Cervix Lesions induced by HPV
Present observations have shown a marked reduction or complete loss of acid phosphatase (Aph) activity in different intraepithelial lesions or in malignant changes of the uterine cervix.Immunohistochemical distribution of HPV antigen and in situ hybridization method of papillomas have demonstrated that only in cells of the spinous or granular layer vegetative viral HPV DNA synthesis was seen. Alkaline phosphatase (Alp) activitzy was partly inhibited with L- phenylalanine, thus presenting Regans isoenzyme form. Thereofore it seems possible that phenotyoic changes in Aph aa well as in Alp distribution pattern could be related to the HPV induced cervical lesions.
