Glial meningeal hamartoma of the cerebellopontine angle as a cause of the hemibasal syndrome
The paper present a rare case of meningeal angioglial hamartoma of the cerebellopontine angle which brought about compression of eight cranial nerves of the left side and caused a clinical picture of hemibasal syndrome. During the period of the development of hemibasal syndrome, only the atrophy of the tongue and muscle innervated by the eleventh cranial nerve occurred, what in the authors' opinion indicated the primary localization of hamartoma. Morphologically hamartoma was built of piloid-glia-type cells, which together with numerous blood vessels, formed a peculiar type of tissue. The localization of solitary glial hamartoma on the cerebellopontine angle is very rare. So far, to the authors knowledge only two similar cases have been reported.
