Na margini ili u središtu društva? Razmišljanja o marginalnosti u srednjem vijeku u nekoliko primjera
The author is reconsidering the question what does social marginality really mean in the Middle Ages. The problem of marginality and marginal people is closely connected to the problem of identity and belonging. The medieval society, both urban and rural experienced several levels and forms of belonging and, according to that, several different definitions of marginality. The criteria of marginality were numerous and heterogeneous, so marginals could be not only powerless and poor people but also members of the higher estates who were for any reason deprived of the power and social position. The author examines this matter through several examples: belonging or not belonging to the Christianity, position of poor and poverty in the medieval West and the marginality of the privileged.
