Petroleum Systems in the Southern Part of the Panonnian Basin, Croatia

The geological, hydrodynamic and thermal complexity as well as the variety of hydrocarbon accumulations characterizes the southern, marginal part of the Pannonian Basin in Croatia. The area consists of numerous small depressions/sub-depressions, separated by relatively shallow uplifted basement. Several large and small petroleum systems were determined in this area. Two main petroleum systems were selected as representative in the Drava Depression. The large petroleum system with generation-accumulation efficiency of 6.7% was recognized in northwestern and central part of the Drava Depression. The second petroleum system was recognized in the eastern part of Drava Depression. This system belongs to small petroleum system, however organic facies type and maturity level of source rock distinguish it from large system in the western area. In Mura and Sava Depressions petroleum systems were also established. These systems can be classified as small systems. However, their critical moments vary with their stratigraphic position, source rock types, maturity and hydrocarbon characteristics, indicating high differences between these two petroleum systems. All petroleum systems in the southern marginal part of Panonnian Basin show high level of certainty and belong to the class of typical systems, considering the established presence of source rock and related hydrocarbons in reservoirs and other geological items and processes that indicate the genetic relationship between source and hydrocarbons.
