C REACTIVE PROTEIN – A MARKER OF INFLAMMATION IN THE PREDICTION OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS IN PATIENTS ON HEMODIALYSIS
is well known that patients on hemodialysis, due to chronic renal insufficiency, are often prone to inflammatory processes because of their compromised immunological status. It is assumed that hemodialysis patients are often exposed to low doses of bacterial endotoxins, which are present in dialysis solution and can cause chronic inflammatory process with manifested or silent clinical presentation. C reactive protein (CRP) itself, consisting of 206 amino acids, can be a predictor of chronic inflammatory process in patients on hemodialysis, as well as an important factor in the pathogenesis of atherothrombosis and cause of sudden death of hemodialysis patients
