Education and Intercultural Challenges of the Contemporary Tourism
This paper discusses the factors which can influence – positively or negatively – intercultural relationships in tourism development. In particular, it examines how educational and academic tourism institutions can contribute through their curricula and course programmes to facilitating more sustainable forms and practices of tourism management with the international tourist industry. The result being improved inter-cultural relations benefiting both the international tourist industry itself, as well as establishing a better framework for mutual interest and understanding among societies, their culture and heritage. The paper is, also, focused on European training and educatons programmes that have been noted for consistantly drawing on a wealth of profound experience, in which traditional values have continued to be upheld to this day. From 17th century to our day, European education has managed to grow from a level of practical and empirical craftsmanship to that of the post-industrial age and globalisation.
