On quantum computers
Information is encoded in physical systems. Computation is a kind of dynamics on real(physical) devisec. Therefore, the study of information and computation is the study of relevant physical processes. In particular, we know that our microcosmos is governed by the laws of quantum mechanics. However, today's computers work on the principle of classical physics (e.g. classical electrodynamics) besides the fact, that lihographic techniques etch logic gates and wires less than 10-5 m across, onto the surfaces of silicon chips. During recent years, new fields of non-classical information and computation have been found, based on quantum theory and (essentially) quantum experiments. These are the quantum informaiton and the quantum computation.
