Histological study of stapes suprastructure

Interest for otosclerosis is very old.The first who described the stapes ankylosis was Valsalva in 17351.The first studies of histological changes in otosclerosis was done by Politzer in 18932-3. In addition there are some famous histological studies from Guild, Rüedi, Spoendlin and Nylen4-6.The list of authors who was interested in the histology of otosclerosis is extremely long.However there are some authors who described histological changes like otosclerosis even in other auditory ossicles, like Cowell who in 1940 described changes like otosclerotic plaque found in incus7.In our Clinic , from 1977, the main technique for resolving the problem of otosclerosis is stapedotomy, so that for histological analysis wecan use only removed stapes suprastructure8.In this paper we report our results of histological analysis of removed stapes suprastructure in otosclerosis
