Children with special needs with the interactive system family-school-peers
Aim was to explore factors relevant to increasing the level of inclusion of children with special needs in regular primary schools. Although children with special needs in Croatia have had a legal right to minstream education for over 20 years, the subjective prerequisites for their successful integration are not fulfilled. The investigation examined the properties of different elements of the micro-system around a child with special needs, family-school-peersw, the interaction of hese elements and the factors influencing the total network. It was conducted on a sample of students with intellectual disabilities attending 6th form of regulr primary school (n=120)and their peers (n=300) parents (n=420) and teachers (n=200). Attitudes toward a child with special needs within the mycro-system of family, school and peers are highly congruent. Good understanding each of three micro-systems and their interconnection is important for the creation of the optimal intervention programs aimed at healthy psychosocial development of children with special needs.
