Effect of Hyperbaric Oxygenation on the Level of Free Fatty Acids in Experimental Spinal Cord Injury in Rabbits
The aim of this study was to determine the major components of the free fatty acids pool in the spinal cord tissue of rabbits exposed to: a) experimental impact injury (SCI) and b) the influence of post- injury hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO). Free fatty acids were identified by using gas chromatography. Treatment with hyperbaric oxygenation resulted in a significant decrease of the level of the analysed FFAs caused by neurotrauma. These results are suggest HBO as a possible treatment of spinal cord injury.
