Guidelines for Teacher Training in Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education

The tool is prepared in the context of the implementation of the Council of Europe’ s policy on promoting learning, teaching and training of an informed, knowledgeable, active and responsible European citizen. The content is divided into four chapters followed by recommendations and case studies from individual countries. The first chapter provides argument for teacher and trainer training in EDC while the rest of the publication aims at explaining the support structures and mechanisms, teacher/trainer competences, as well as the processes and methods in teacher/trainer preparation for EDC. The tool is part of the EDC Tool Box issued by the Council of Europe to facilitate the introduction of EDC in European schools in the framework of the European Year of Citizenship through Education 2005.
