The influence of torsion on rotor/stator contact during run-up
The phenomenon of contact between a rotor and stator known as rub has long been recognized as a serious cause of failure in rotating machinery. The analysis of rub is particularly complicated, due to many aspects of non-linear behaviour. Thus a general rub rotor model, including also torsional properties, is founded in the light of the contact force theory. The paper considers a simplified rotor system driven by asynchronous electric motor with one rigid casing ring elastically mounted around the rotors disk. Runge-Kutta integration method was applied to obtain numerical solution of the governing equation. In the literature, dynamic analysis of the rotor model is commonly limited to the lateral movement. This paper includes torsional property of the rotor and highlights the importance of its inclusion.
