Corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in chloride solutions by blends of environmentally acceptable compounds.
Ca- and Zn-gluconates in an adequate ratio with Na-benzoate can improve the inhibition of uniformed corrosion of carbon steel in chloride solutions, and eliminate pitting which occurs in certain concentrations of chlorie solutions with sodium benzote alone as an inhibitor. One can conclude that gluconates improve the performance by repairing the protective adsorption layer formed in benzoate solutions by adsorption of gluconte anion or by precipitation of a low soluble metal-complex. In solution of Zn-gluconate the precipitation of Zn-hydroxide on cathodic ares contributes to the inhibition effect.
