The incidence of rogue cell-type chromosomal damages in subjects exposed to ionizing radiation
Multiply damaged cells occur very rarely in healthy individuals. The mechanisms for the causation is not clear. In this study the frequency of multiaberant cells occurence in professionals working in radiation field was followed up. Cells with four or more aberrations were considered as multiaberrant or rogue cells. The study comprised 1393 exposed subjects and 235 control subjects. Dicentric or ring chromosomes were found in 192 subjects in exposed, and in 14 subjects in control group. In 2, 94% of exposed and 0, 85% of control examinees rogue cells were observed, which points the ionizing radiation is one of possible cause of rogue cell occurence.
