Axial dispersion in horizontal rotating tubular bioreactor estimated by multisensor system
Axial dispersion in the horizontal rotating tubular bioreactor (HRTB) was estimated by newly developed procedure, which unify temperature step response techniques with multisensor measuring system and structured "tank in series" model of mixing designated as "spiral flow" model. Mixing investigations were done in a wide range of process conditions [residence time (t_Z = 3600 - 36000 s, corresponding with Reynolds axial flow numbers 146 - 1466) and bioreactor rotation speed (n = 0.083 - 0.917 s^-1, corresponding with Reynolds rotation numbers 1157 - 117172)]. Dispersion model with Bodenstein (or Peclet) number as the model parameter was used for mixing characterisation in HRTB. Obtained Bodenstein numbers were in the range 10 - 17. In this paper, the applicability of the standard dispersion model on the HRTB and similar systems was also discussed.
