Influence of inlet channel geometry on diesel engine parameters
This paper examines the influence of inlet channel geometry modifications on the swirl intensity and, in combination with fuel injectors, on diesel engine characteristics. The swirl ratio value and inlet valve flow restriction factor were measured using special esting device. Three different inlet channel geometry forms with different swirl generation characteristics were tested and resulting engine characteristics were compared. Three different fuel injectors were tested together with the different inlet channel geometry forms. for the selected tested combinations of the inlet channel and fuel injector, the NOx emissions were examined using the numerical simulations based on the two zone phenomenological model description and extended Zeldovich reactions. In the conclusions some practical recommendations are derived from the experimental results.
