Incidence of E. coli in aquaculture areas of the Adriatic Sea
Aquaculture is currently one of the fastest growing food production sectors in the world. Increase in nutrients and organic wastes lead to general deterioration of water quality. The water quality problem is associated with both physical and chemical factors as well as microbiological water quality. This study was undertaken to investigate water quality at five fish farms in the Adriatic Sea. The results indicate higher presence of E. coli in the surface layers of the sea in relation to the water column depth.
