Experimental and numerical study of the flow and heat transfer in plate heat exchanger channels
This paper presents an experimental and numerical study of the flow and heat transfer in corrugated chevron channels of plate heat exchangers. 3D CFD simulations were performed on two channel models, each consisting of 16 cells, with chevron angles  =28°and  =65° under laminar, transitional and fully turbulent flow conditions. Applied the RNG k- and the RES models for turbulent flow simulation are presented and discussed. Computationally obtained flow patterns are analyzed and compared with recorded ones from the visualization tests. Different methods for evaluation of the simulated hydraulic and thermal characteristics are discussed and compared with experimental data from present measurements and literature.
