Finding Fast Temperature Changes by The Discrete Wavelet Transform
In the last decade the wavelets application area is steadily increased. Two types of wavelet transforms are developed as tools to be on disposal to scientist and engineers ; the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) and the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The main goal in this paper is to show that DWT is an excellent choice for finding fast temperature changes in material structure of underwater welding process. The data for analysis are obtained from experiment. A prototype material of structural steel is used for experiment. Through the bottom side of the steel a small hole is drilled. A thermo couple of “ K” -type is positioned in the hole. The top side of the steel is treated with moving heat source. The data are collected by the Hottinger Baldwin, DMC 9012A A/D card. The DWT is applied to the collected data. Because of transient type of derived data, the works shows that use of DWT is appropriate for analyzing fast temperature changes in a material structure during an underwater welding process.
