Petroleum coke as carburizing material in foundry
As carburizing material in foundry, regular quality petroleum coke is often used. This paper investigates the properties of various coking feedstock and synthetic and commercial petroleum cokes obtained from them. The analyzed properties were compared to the data on commercial carburizing material used in foundry, known as "Karbina". Based on the test results obtained, petroleum coke produced out of the residue og processed domestic oil from the Moslavina Basin (60% atmospheric residue and 40% pyrolysis residue) is recommended for use as recarburizer in foundry. The coke produced through processing of foreign oil (Russian and Syrian) is not apt for carburizing in iron-carbon alloys due to its high sulphur content.
