IMPLEMENTATION OF ADVANCED CHARGING TECHNOLOGIES IN PUBLIC PASSENGER TRANSPORT IN THE CITY OF PULA

After a six-month development, Pulapromet Ltd., a company operating urban and suburban passenger transit in the City of Pula, has introduced from 1 February 2003 a new charging system called BUSCROcard. The system has integrated the information technology equipment whose purpose is based on the charging by means of contact-free cards which combine several functions. The BUSCROcard is the first charging system in the Republic of Croatia which, apart from the basic function of charging, also provides exact data for a certain time period about the occupancy of the lines, bus stops, types of fares, etc. Such data present the real demand for the public transport of passengers in the quantitative sense, and they are used to create plans for timetables, frequency of bus departures and a number of other functions of the traffic system. The work presents the effects of the system regarding operator's work and the traffic engineering of the public passengers transport in the City of Pula.
